Angeln mit Geruch
Seefledermäuse sind wenig erforscht, obwohl es beinahe 100 Arten von ihnen gibt. Sie leben auf dem Boden in tropischen und subtropischen Meeren. Ihre nahe Verwandtschaft zu den Anglerfischen wird bei genauerer Betrachtung deutlich: betrachtet man eine Seefledermaus von vorne, so sieht man eine Grube über dem Maul und zwischen den Augen. Darin befindet sich eine kleine Angel, ähnlich dem der Anglerfische. Nur ist diese Angel viel kleiner und unscheinbarer. Vermutlich lockt sie auch nicht mit optischen Reizen, sondern verströmt einen Geruch, der mögliche Beutetiere anlocken soll.

Fishing with Smell
Batfish are not well researched, although there are almost 100 species of them. They live on the bottom of tropical and subtropical seas. Their close relationship to anglerfish becomes clear upon closer inspection: if you look at a batfish from the front, you can see a pit above the mouth and between the eyes. Inside is a small fishing rod, similar to that of the anglerfish. Only this rod is much smaller and less conspicuous. It probably does not lure with visual stimuli, but rather gives off a smell that is intended to attract possible prey.
